Brisbane's policing history: Walking the Long Blue Line - Cya On The Road

Queensland Police have always used Brisbane as a base of their operations. When the state separated from New South Wales in 1859, policing was managed from Sydney until the Queensland Police Force came about in 1864. Initially spread out around Brisbane town using old convict buildings as a base of operations. In 1875 the opportunity arose whereby they could bring everyone together and take over the Victoria Army Barracks. In 1883 the police moved next door into the old Brisbane Gaol precinct were in residence in the area until 1987. The tour starts at the Barracks Development and wends its way into the city. It will take you past police buildings that still exist and past places where there is a story to tell but nothing to look at, your imagination will be required. We hope you enjoy the tour.
