Welcome to the audioguide for the Circuit of La Chimba.

La Chimba - Cya On The Road

La Chimba neighborhood owes its name to the Quechua word "Chimba" which means "the other side”. That’s how the lands from the other side of the Mapocho river and the Calicanto Bridge used to be called. This bridge was vital to speed up the movement of people and goods into the city.

Over time fruits, vegetables and meat stands settled in this historic neighborhood and it became the gateway for the farmers from the north to arrive in Santiago. For this reason, the creation of traditions and popular characters flourished in these streets.

It was the area where the devotion of the people for Francisco García Acosta, also known as Fray Andresito, developed under the influence of religious orders such as the Franciscans, the Dominicans and the Carmelites.
